What is EntreComp?

EntreComp is a reference framework developed by the European Commission to define and assess entrepreneurship competencies. It aims to provide a common language and a shared understanding of what it means to be entrepreneurial and to foster entrepreneurial mindsets and skills in individuals, organizations, and communities.

The framework consists of 15 competencies organised into three areas: 'Ideas and Opportunities', 'Resources', and 'Into Action'. The competencies are further divided into levels, ranging from foundation (level 1) to advanced (level 3).

EntreComp is intended to be used as a tool for self-assessment, for designing and delivering entrepreneurship education and training, for evaluating the effectiveness of entrepreneurship policies and initiatives, and for promoting a more entrepreneurial culture across Europe and beyond.

EntreComp in European Schools

EntreComp, short for Entrepreneurship Competence Framework, is a reference framework developed by the European Commission to define and assess the entrepreneurial competences necessary for individuals to succeed in an entrepreneurial society. It provides a common language and framework for educators, policymakers, and other stakeholders to promote entrepreneurial learning across Europe.

EntreComp aims to foster entrepreneurial mindsets and skills among citizens, regardless of their background or sector. It encourages a broad understanding of entrepreneurship that goes beyond starting and managing businesses, encompassing entrepreneurial attitudes and behaviours applicable in various contexts, such as social entrepreneurship, intrapreneurship, and innovation within organizations.

While the implementation of EntreComp in European schools is not mandatory, many countries and educational institutions have recognized its value and incorporated it into their educational strategies. The framework can be used to guide curriculum development, teaching methodologies, and assessment practices, promoting entrepreneurial learning throughout a student's educational journey.

By integrating EntreComp into school curricula, students are exposed to entrepreneurial concepts, skills, and experiences, preparing them for the challenges and opportunities of the modern world. It encourages creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and resilience, which are essential for entrepreneurship and broader career success.

Schools can incorporate EntreComp by designing specific courses or modules focused on entrepreneurship, embedding entrepreneurial skills within existing subjects, or promoting extracurricular activities that foster entrepreneurial thinking, such as student-led ventures, business plan competitions, or innovation labs.

Furthermore, policymakers play a crucial role in supporting the integration of EntreComp in schools by providing guidance, resources, and teacher training opportunities. They can also collaborate with relevant stakeholders, including businesses and entrepreneurship networks, to create authentic learning experiences and bridge the gap between the classroom and the real world.

The implementation of EntreComp in European schools contributes to the development of a more entrepreneurial and innovative society, nurturing a generation of individuals equipped with the skills and mindset necessary to tackle complex challenges, create value, and seize opportunities in a rapidly changing global landscape.
